What is Alpian?
In addition to everyday banking services - including a free bank account - Alpian also offers digital investment services. Investment advice is not provided at the bank, but conveniently via video call. With Alpian, even customers of average wealth can enjoy personalised investment services. Find out everything you need to know about Alpian's investment solutions in this review. If you are interested not only in the topic of investing, but also in the comprehensive Alpian review including our experiences, you can continue reading here.
How does investing with Alpian work?
Once you have an Alpian account, you can create your investor profile in the app by answering the questions you are asked. In our experience, this process is relatively quick. Aspects such as your financial situation, investment goals and preferences are taken into account. You also have to decide whether you want to make the investment decisions yourself (Guided by Alpian) or whether you want to hand over the asset management to Alpian (Managed by Alpian). In the latter case, you will receive a customised investment strategy. Advice is provided via video call or chat directly in the Alpian app. You can book an appointment at any time if required.
Alpian thus closes the gap between digital asset managers without advice and traditional banks.
Guided by Alpian
If you would like to manage your assets yourself, the ‘Guided by Alpian’ advisory mandate is available to you. If necessary, you will receive advice and support from the investment experts, but the decisions are ultimately up to you. You can put together your own portfolio from selected ETFs and index funds and customise it at any time. In addition to the familiar asset classes of equities and bonds, you can also choose from alternative investments such as commodities, precious metals and cryptocurrencies.
Alpian executes the orders accordingly and monitors your portfolio on an ongoing basis. This is the first investment solution in Switzerland that allows you to implement your investment strategy completely freely and independently, but where you can obtain expert feedback at any time if required. The minimum investment amount is CHF 10,000. Alpian Guided by is suitable for you if you enjoy dealing with the composition of your portfolio yourself.
Managed by Alpian
If you want to leave the portfolio management entirely to Alpian, you can opt for the ‘Managed by Alpian’ asset management mandate. This is the simplest way to make broadly diversified investments. Your portfolio is put together based on your details and tailored to your needs. The investment team will then actively take care of selecting the investments and managing the portfolio.
Your portfolio will be optimised and adapted to changing market conditions as required. Alpian pursues a diversified and long-term growth strategy. Your money is spread across different asset classes, regions and sectors to make your portfolio resilient and achieve an optimal risk/return ratio. The aim is to allow you to participate in the growth of global economies. To achieve this, we mainly use cost-efficient and broadly diversified ETFs and investment funds. The minimum investment amount is CHF 30,000 and we recommend Managed by Alpian if you do not want to make your own investment decisions. Of course, you can contact the customer advisors at any time with questions. You will also be regularly informed about the performance of your investments.
What are the fees for investing with Alpian?
Investing with Alpian is subject to a flat fee of 0.75%, which is charged on the amount invested. This covers all administration fees and an unlimited number of advisory meetings. In addition, the product costs incurred for the ETFs and index funds used (varies depending on the product, usually around 0.25%), a possible exchange rate surcharge of 0.2% and stamp duty are also charged. Ongoing fees of around 1% are therefore to be expected.
Mandate fee (per year) | 0.75% |
---|---|
Minimum deposit ‘Guided by Alpian’ | CHF 10'000 |
Minimum deposit ‘Managed by Alpian’ | CHF 30'000 |
This is significantly cheaper than asset management mandates with traditional banks (these cost +/- 1.5%), but more expensive than digital asset management without advice (this is already available from total fees of 0.6%, for example with finpension or findependent).
Advantages of Alpian compared to a traditional bank
Alpian does not use its own funds and ETFs and does not accept retrocessions, as is often the case with traditional banks. Alpian therefore has no incentive to select funds or ETFs that are unfavourable for the customer simply because they are profitable for the bank. In addition, the entry threshold for investments is significantly lower than with traditional banks. With Alpian, you can invest from as little as CHF 10,000 (Guided by Alpian) or CHF 30,000 (Managed by Alpian), whereas with traditional banks this is often only possible from CHF 100,000 or more.
Is investing with Alpian recommendable? Our conclusion
Although Alpian is completely digital, it still offers you support and advice for your investment decisions. As this experience report shows, Alpian closes the gap between traditional banks and digital asset managers without advice.
With Alpian, you get a customised investment portfolio and personal advice at significantly lower costs and a lower entry barrier (minimum investment amount) than with traditional banks. If you want to manage your finances conveniently on your smartphone, but still don't want to miss out on personal advice and support, Alpian offers an attractive solution. Alpian also gives you a fully-fledged free bank account with a debit card and attractive foreign currency fees. You can therefore carry out all your banking transactions with Alpian. As long as you are invested, the usual account management fees are waived.
